Client Brief:
Arco Professional Safety Services were invited by SGP Contracts to develop a comprehensive façade and louvre access strategy on their new ‘M by Montecalm Hotel’, in Shoreditch, London. The final solution involved both Fall Arrest and Abseil Access.
In addition to the original brief we were asked to assist with the installation of the decorative louvres for the building exterior. The louvres would be craned into position and safely secured into final position by skilled Arco Professional Safety Services IRATA qualified tradesmen. The team were also required to carry out weather proofing to the curtain wall glazing.
Arco Professional Safety Services' Solution
Following a detailed consultation and design phase, the use of BMU’s (Building Maintenance Unit) was dismissed due to the complex building geometry and the volume of lost space to accommodate such a machine. Arco Professional Safety Services were employed to work alongside the main architect and façade contractors to design and install a bespoke abseil and fall arrest system which could not only accommodate the striking geometry of their new build hotel, but would also ensure a safe, aesthetically conscious and cost effective solution.
A series of unobtrusive EN795 Rope Access anchor points were installed to structural steelwork accessible by bespoke steel walkways to each of the 5 inclined elevations of the building nestled within the decorative louvres. Access to each of the elevations is gained via the use of “BridgeLatch” Fall Arrest systems, specifically chosen for its capability to work on an incline of 0 - 70°.
Arco Professional Safety Services’ solution for the installation of the louvres was to use rope access. Because of the height, access and steep angles of the roof rope access was the best method to use for the install, and the most cost effective.
