CLIENT: Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

Client Brief

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provide a wide range of hospital services at their two main locations, the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

The NHS Trust were looking for a specialist safety company install a collective fall protection solution, in the form of freestanding (weight based) guardrails, to a roof at one of the hospital sites.

As a previous sub-contractor, working for a construction company who were repairing a part of the roof on one of the buildings, they looked to Arco Professional Safety Services install the guardrail and requested expert guidance on the best approach to mitigating the fall risk of anyone accessing any of the roof areas across their sites.

Arco Professional Safety Services’ Solution

As experts in fall protections solutions, we provided Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust with an end-to-end service from consultation through design, installation and provision of maintenance and certification.

Our highly experienced team of engineers surveyed all the major roofs across the hospital’s sites to determine which required fall protection solutions. After initially installing freestanding (weight based) guardrail to the original rooftop identified, the team have been working through the remaining areas identified through a mutually agreed, scheduled approach.

Benefits of our solution

By choosing Arco professional Safety Services, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust were able to call on an already known, local team of experts who could respond quickly and they could be confident and assured about the level of service, quality and consistency they would receive site wide.

Stock of the chosen guardrail solution was readily available, competitively priced and our team could be on site to install at short notice. The installations mean that the roofs can be accessed without the need for specific fall protection equipment and training, reducing ongoing costs and making maintenance of the roof, and the plant on the roof, easier.

Additionally, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust were able to utilise the already agreed and implemented Arco Healthcare Framework, streamlining the order and invoicing process, saving valuable time.

All installation and certification history is captured in our Customer Asset Tracking (CAT) system, allowing Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to view and manage relevant documentation and certificates in one place. The audit log of the work that has been carried out, provides information on the installations, who and when the work was carried out and critically when they need to be certified again.

Testimonial

We have a strong working relationship with Arco Professional Safety Services and as experts in safety we value the responsive and agile support their fall protection specialists offer.

Arco Professional Safety Services have provided guardrails for many roofs on our hospital sites, along with a series of up and over bridges, to get over pipework on the roofs.

We are pleased with the service we receive from Arco Professional Safety Services and have confidence in the quality of their installations. In fact, in the last year we have recommended the Arco Professional Safety Services fall protection installation services to several other companies, including a construction company installing air conditioning units to a roof where guardrail was required.

Providing safe access for maintenance staff and other contractors to the roofs on our sites is vital to ensure the hospital buildings can be effectively maintained. The fall protection solutions provided by the Arco Professional Safety Services team make this possible.
